Start with your estate planning attorney

An estate planning attorney can advise you about documents, legal choices, and language appropriate to your circumstances. Compass is not a law firm and does not draft estate planning documents or provide legal or tax advice. Our discussion focuses on the responsibilities you would like a professional fiduciary to consider.

Choosing a future trustee or personal representative

You may be considering a successor trustee, a personal representative for a future probate estate, or an agent under a power of attorney. These are different roles. Tell us which role your attorney is preparing, when assistance may be needed, and what property, records, or ongoing responsibilities are involved. Naming Compass in a document does not by itself confirm our acceptance of an appointment.

Prepare for a fiduciary fit discussion

• Your goals and the role you want Compass to consider.
• Whether draft documents exist and who is preparing them.
• A general description of assets, property locations, and anticipated administrative needs.
• Any timing concerns or proposed changes to an existing plan.

Keep full account numbers, passwords, medical records, and confidential documents out of the initial website inquiry. We can discuss appropriate document submission instructions when needed.
